Tony Mackay

Tony is one of our Board of Directors. His work specialises in the areas of school and system leadership, improvement and innovation and he is currently working on a number of ‘Next Practice Projects' on school leadership and school improvement and reform around the world.

Tony's work at state, national and international levels focuses on strategic thinking and facilitation for Government bodies, education agencies, think tanks, school boards and leadership teams. He is Co-Director of the Global Education Leaders Program (GELP) which is supported by the Innovation Unit along with CISCO, Gates Foundation and Promethean.

Tony's work encompasses the areas of school and system leadership, improvement and innovation, teacher professionalism and curriculum and assessment policy and includes the design and implementation of Research and Development Programs and Leadership Development Programs.

Tony is Executive Director of the Melbourne-based Centre for Strategic Education. He is Chair of the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership and Deputy Chair of the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority. He is a Board Director of the Australian COuncil for Educational Research, the Asia Education Foundation, and the Foundation for Young Australians. Tony is a founding member of the Governing Council of the National College for School Leadership (now National College for Leadership of Schools and Children's Services). He is also an Honorary Fellow of The University of Melbourne Graduate School of Education. Tony is the Immediate Past President of the International Congress for School Effectiveness and Improvement (ICSEI), and a Consultant Advisor to OECD / CERI.
