Community-led innovation
Learning
We are supporting over 130 community-led climate projects across the UK, working with them to create local impact and reduce climate injustice.

The Climate Action Fund (CAF) is a ten-year, £100 million funding programme that inspires and enables communities across the UK to take action on climate change,  set up in 2019 by The National Lottery Community Fund. We are part of the seven-year CAF Learning and Support Partnership, alongside our brilliant partners Arup, Creature & Co., and University of Leeds. Together we aim to accelerate climate action by fostering collaboration and sharing learning.

Our partnership enables:

Enhanced support for grant holders

Access to shared knowledge, expertise and support, helping projects scale their impact and achieve greater success.

A strengthened environmental and climate action sector

United projects and collaborative approaches will strengthen the entire community-led climate movement.

Wider societal impact

Better-connected projects will increase public engagement, create more sustainable solutions and drive systemic change.

Knowledge amplification

Five years of learning from grassroots climate action will be collated, amplified and shared to drive bigger results.

Inspiration for future climate action

Powerful stories and insights will spark new ideas that are relatable and replicable to encourage more communities to take action.

Our approach

Leading the ‘Enable’ strand of the partnership, we deliver a co-designed programme of learning and support opportunities to build the capacity and capabilities of the grant holders.

The programme is designed around 5 central learning themes:

  • Building climate equity

  • Understating climate action impact

  • Communicating climate action stories

  • Ensuring lasting change

  • Delivering through partnerships

Learning and support opportunities for grant holders include:

  • Action Learning Sets and Peer Crews, focuses include embedding equity and enabling community leadership

  • Communities of Practice, themed across Place, Energy, Nature, Food & Growing and Waste, Consumption & Reuse

  • Webinars and Workshops for larger groups, topics include Building Climate Equity and Considering Future Funding

  • Networking opportunities, including nation-specific sessions
