The internship really gave me an insight into a variety of different worlds. I worked with teachers, local councillors, nurses, and consultants with great knowledge of education, business, and many other things beside. I also worked with children centre workers, parents, and with social innovators fighting global climate change with a great deal of creativity and skill.
Experiencing the inner workings of the organisation was also very useful in seeing how procedures work in a very busy and efficient office environment, as well as understanding the work and learning from the great experience of senior members of staff. The staff at the Innovation Unit are a great bunch: supportive, fun, very clever, and with a variety of different work and life experiences (and I'm not just saying this because they will read it!)
Overall, it was both a great challenge and a hugely inspiring experience. I am going on work in the education sector and the internship allowed me to develop skills, understanding and many new perspectives which I can use in future work, and in life in general!
