Personalising Learning: The Future of Public Service Reform? |
May 2004The Innovation Unit, together with the think-tank Demos, and OECD (the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) held an international seminar - Personalised Learning: the future of Public Service Reform. The focus of this event was to explore the new dynamics of public service provision in a demand-led environment. Through the presentation of a broad range of international perspectives, the concept of personalisation was developed and discussed, particularly in relation to the learning in the UK. The conference examined teaching and learning strategies, the pupil's personal learning experiences and how the capacity for personalised learning might be spread, for example through collaborative working. David Miliband MP, formerly Minister of State for School Standards, shared his vision of what personalisation means for the education system and joined an audience of headteachers, teachers, policy makers and other stakeholders in debating how this philosophy could be realised in practice. Read David Miliband's speech (PDF - 58 Kb) The papers from the seminar and the half-day conference that was held at the end have now been gathered into a publication produced by OECD. The full text can be downloaded from the Education & Skills page on the OECD website. |
The Unit supported teacher involvement with research plus a small number of other projects.
