Teaching Awards 2006 |
In 2006 The Innovation Unit sponsored The Ted Wragg Teaching Award for Lifetime Achievement. Our congratulations go to Gerry Curran of Featherstone Primary School in Southall who won this Award.
Throughout a long career spanning 38 years, Gerry has demonstrated almost superhuman levels of energy and commitment. For the last twenty three of those years he has been the steadfast, remarkable headteacher of the extraordinary Featherstone Primary School. More than 600 pupils are on roll, with some 37 nationalities represented and 30 home tongues spoken. One in four pupils is from refugee or asylum seeking family; many have witnessed tremendous horror and loss. It is a school of many faiths yet united by a deep and profound common spirituality. On 23rd October Gerry took part in a discussion on faith schools on the BBC Radio 4 programme The Learning Curve. Visit The Learning Curve webpage to find out more and to listen to the programme.
